Automation & Operational Technology (OT) Engineer
Job Title: Automation Engineer
Job Location: 8830 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville, MD 21793
Contract Duration: 6 months contract with possibility for extension
Payrate: $31.34 - $52.23 per hr. on W2
Job Description:
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing and maintaining automated equipment and machinery that replace or improve manual processes. This role involves implementing automated testing systems, identifying areas for improved efficiency through automation, and providing ongoing technical support related to automated systems. The engineer will also prepare and maintain documentation manuals detailing automated processes and system modifications.
Responsibilities
Design & Implementation:
- Design automated equipment and machinery to complete processes and tasks otherwise performed manually.
- Implement automated tests to evaluate the integrity and performance of automated systems.
Process & Efficiency Improvement:
- Identify and define opportunities to introduce automation for enhanced production and overall efficiency.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical hands-on support for automated systems as needed.
- Deliver support for Ot infrastructure and industrial automation platforms across multiple environments, including manufacturing, utilities, quality control, and laboratories.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Write and maintain documentation manuals for automated processes.
- Record and detail any changes in existing equipment design, operation, or processes.
Automation & Operational Technology (OT) Focus
- Deliver technical support for site-based automation and OT systems.
- Ensure the reliability, integrity, cybersecurity, and compliance of OT infrastructure.
- Support lifecycle management from design through validation.
- Contribute to CAPEX/OPEX projects as they relate to automation and OT.
- Ensure data integrity, cybersecurity, and regulatory readiness in alignment with GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, and Annex 11 requirements.

Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience as an Automation Engineer or related role.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial automation and OT systems.
- Experience with system validation, documentation, and change management.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements within GMP-regulated environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for OT/automation systems.
