Role Summary
  • The Systems Engineer III will apply computer science and systems engineering principles to design, develop, automate, and troubleshoot large-scale server and fleet management systems. This role focuses on server lifecycle management, automation, and deep systems troubleshooting in a multi-vendor environment.
  • You will work at the intersection of software engineering and systems, building reliable infrastructure tooling that supports Client's enterprise container platforms. Success in this role requires strong Linux fundamentals, networking expertise, hands-on automation experience, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop backend services, workflows, and automation to manage full server lifecycle activities including network boot, firmware updates, OS provisioning, failure detection, decommissioning, and data erasure
  • Build and maintain out-of-band server management tooling in a multi-vendor environment, including state management and telemetry collection
  • Write, review, and test code; validate changes directly on hardware and automate testing pipelines
  • Troubleshoot complex provisioning, firmware update, and network boot issues end-to-end from both server and network perspectives
  • Automate management of large fleets of server hardware using industry protocols
  • Collaborate cross-functionally while operating autonomously to solve complex infrastructure challenges

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • 3+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related technical role
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP network fundamentals and network boot processes
  • Hands-on experience with Linux systems and server management
  • Proficiency in coding and scripting for automation using one or more of the following: Python, Go, Rust, Bash, Ruby
  • Experience automating management of large server fleets
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot server and systems architecture issues

  • TCP/IP Network Fundamentals
  • Deep understanding of networking concepts and troubleshooting network boot processes
  • Linux Systems & Server Management
  • Experience provisioning, updating firmware, and managing full server lifecycles
  • Automation & Scripting
  • Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, Bash, or Ruby for systems automation

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Experience with server management protocols such as Redfish and IPMI
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud deployment technologies
  • Strong troubleshooting analytics across server and systems components
  • Linux and/or TCP/IP certifications

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain automation for fleet management and server lifecycle operations
  • Build tooling for out-of-band server management and telemetry collection
  • Write and review code, test changes on physical hardware, and automate validation
  • Troubleshoot provisioning, firmware, and network boot issues end-to-end
  • Work independently while collaborating with cross-functional partners
