Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Linguist II to provide linguistic expertise and support the development of speech data models and product improvements. The role involves analyzing, designing, and refining linguistic data to enhance product performance and user experience for wearable devices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide linguistic expertise in phonetics, phonology, lexicography, dialectology, and NLP.
- Design and conduct experiments to evaluate transcription quality.
- Develop manual and automated processes for multiple projects, ensuring high-quality label alignments, prosodic classification, POS identification, disambiguation, and targeted modeling data.
- Create and refine text normalization and inverse text normalization processes.
- Manage lexical and phrasal transcriptions and related metadata.
- Analyze system metrics such as user opinion, lexicon coverage, and POS tagger performance, identifying and resolving issues.
- Contribute to the launch of new languages on wearable devices, ensuring native accuracy and appropriate voice output.
Required Skills:
- Native speaker of Kannada.
- Knowledge of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology, and other areas of linguistics.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to analyze waveforms and spectrograms.
- Experience with programming languages like Python.
- Experience working with large volumes of language data.
- Experience performing deep-dive data analysis.
Typical Day in the Role:
- Updating pronunciation lexica and writing text normalization rules.
- Fixing synthesis bugs and reviewing results of external evaluations.
- Managing multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting timelines.
